When I found this turtle, I thought I would help him by moving him to the side of the road. As I approached, it retracted its head and feet under its shell. But as I touched its shell, it popped its head out and sort of twisted around to try to bite me. I lept back in alarm. After that I decided I would just leave it alone. | |||
The turtle was about 12 inches across on the shell. | |||

A snapping turtle on the highway.
